Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students

TPE 4.1-4.8

TPE 4.2

Understand and apply knowledge of the range and characteristics of typical and atypical child development from birth through adolescence to help inform instructional planning and learning experiences for all students.

Thoughts on TPE 4.2

My research on hearing impairment for students within the classroom supports TPE 4.2, by building my understanding of typical and atypical child development and how I should plan and implement strategies in my classroom to support all students. Through this research, I was able to understand the importance of applying knowledge on a wide range of characteristics that students possess and how to support their learning and my instructional approach to reach the best outcome for my students.

Special Needs Case Study Research

TPE 4.7

Plan instruction that promotes a range of communication strategies and activity modes between teacher and student and among students that encourage student participation in learning.

Thoughts on TPE 4.7

In this math lesson, students learned hands on measurement for length of objects using non-standard measurement tools. This applies to TPE 4.7, because I used developmentally appropriate learning strategies for students to engage and have opportunities to support their learning in small group math centers. The students were able to discuss lengths and work as a team to decide the accurate measurements of the various objects around the room. This provided students support through MTSS methods with hands on and collaborative learning opportunities to put real life examples to practice, allowing me to interact with students and students to interact with one another to encourage students’ participation in measurement and math.
