TPE 3

Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning

TPE 3.1-3.8

TPE 3.2

Use knowledge about students and learning goals to organize the curriculum to facilitate student understanding of subject matter and make accommodations and/or modifications as needed to promote student access to the curriculum.

Thoughts on TPE 3.2

Through this example of TPE 3.2, you see my design and organization of an ELA lesson for 1st graders. I consulted with my mentor teacher for strategies and used class resources and instructional materials for planning out the lesson. I demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching strategies that align with the California State Standards.

TPE 3.7

Model and develop digital literacy by using technology to engage students and support their learning, and promote digital citizenship, including respecting copyright law, understanding fair use guidelines and the use of Creative Commons license, and maintaining Internet security.

Thoughts on TPE 3.7

Through this example of TPE 3.7, I utilized a lesson that incorporated ELA centers. Students rotated every 25 minutes to a new center. One of the centers was for students to use their Chromebook to access Lexia. Students are monitored for daily usage and progress through the Core 5- Lexia program. Students are introduced to this program at the beginning of the year and tested to evaluate the best starting point for their reading abilities to support their learning and independence.
